When most everyone else seems throttled with urgency, singer-songwriter Cory Breth cautions his listeners to downshift enough to catch a glimpse of the often-missed beauty that lies behind the window of our lives. Residing in the quaint Tipp City, OH, Breth teaches high-school Spanish by day and tours regionally and nationally at night and in the Summer. In his biography he comments,

“I simply love sharing in the joy of music”

a sentiment we believe is evident in both his lyricism and demeanor. During his 10 years of songwriting and touring, Cory Breth has opened for acts such as Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Kris Allen, Edward & Jane, Gungor, and Twenty One Pilots. Cory’s passion for sharing his music has fueled his frenetic schedule during the last three years, each opportunity to perform live merely adding more fuel to his already brimming tank. Cory thrives on the opportunity to share his music with others. He loves to share his heart through song.

On his 2019 spring acoustic tour, Breth joined us in the Loft Studio to record a live session of his latest single, I Hope You See.

To gain more insight into the mind of Cory Breth, we sat down with the 29-year-old singer-songwriter with questions about his career thus far:

What is your favorite part of being a musician?

I love every aspect of live performances. I love putting together set-lists, sharing my songs/stories, singing for people, being myself on stage, meeting people after shows, and connecting with other artists. Live shows are just the best.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

Here are bands and artists I listen to a lot: Noah Gundersen, Josh Garrels, Edward + Jane, The Beatles, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Jon Foreman, Penny + Sparrow, John Mayer, RYVOLI, Foy Vance, Switchfoot, NEEDTOBREATHE, Ray LaMontagne, Jason Barrows, City and Colour, Death Cab for Cutie, Daniel Nunnelee, Moths in the Attic, Will Solomon, Shakey Graves, Johnnyswim.

If you could share the stage with any artist who would it be?

This is a tough one to answer for me. I honestly would love to share with the stage with any of the artists I mentioned in the last question. I have a few answers. A pipe dream would be Paul McCartney. Musically, I feel like I align mostly with City and Colour or Noah Gundersen so either one of them would be awesome. Penny and Sparrow would be a blast too and I feel like we would fit together musically pretty well. And some of my favorite shows ever have been with Edward + Jane so I’d love to share the stage with those wonderful people again.

Plans for new music? Tours? Enlighten us!

I am currently recording my third full-length record right outside of Lexington, Kentucky at a studio called Sightglass Sound. I’m recording with two super talented dudes: Cole Clark and Will Solomon. We have half of the songs done and I plan on finishing the rest of the record in the next few months. I plan on releasing a handful of singles to start 2020 and then I plan to release it Summer of 2020. I hope to do a tour to support it as well. The record is really starting to take shape and I am over the moon about it!

What do you want your fans to get out of your music and your shows?

I want my listeners to be encouraged, challenged, and inspired by my songs. I just want to be honest with them. I hope to share my heart, my life, my failures, my stories through music. I think it’s really important to share in my joy and in my pain (and anything in between) through the songs and stories I share.
